Principles of Kyusho Jitsu

What are the Principles of Kyusho Jitsu? What is Pressure Point Fighting? Now I am not a BIG fan of using the term Pressure Point Fighting, but for today's article let take a look at both terms.

Principles of Kyusho Jitsu

To my mind there are 15 real functional principles of kyusho jitsu. Some teachers have less, some have more and some even teach none.  However success does leave clues! The Black Belts in my system are some of the best technicians in the world. Therefore I know my system works!

But honestly look into as much as you can, and choose the path that is best for you! Today we are first going to look at the BASIC Principle of Kyusho Jitsu.

1) Principle of Kyusho Jitsu - Attack Along the Meridian. This first of the Novice or Basic Principle of Kyusho Jitsu is pretty straight forward. It tells that a better respond will come if multiple pressure points are attacked on the same meridian.

This is harder to accomplish on shorter meridians like Heart, Lung and Pericardium. But easier on longer meridians like Gall Bladder and Stomach. However there is a way to cheat this once you get good! That is with Alarm Points

2) Principle of Kyusho Jitsu - Attack Using the Cycle of Destruction. This is the favorite of the Principle of Kyusho Jitsu for the beginner! So rather than go into massive details about it here, how about a FREE Video!

You can learn more about this series of videos from this link!

3) Principle of Kyusho Jitsu - Attack Using Yin and Yang. This one is far more complex. It is about energy as a whole unit. Some very in-depth reading is here at this link for you!

4) Principles of Kyusho Jitsu - Correct Body Mechanics - This is one of my personal favorite principles. Every martial art has body mechanics, yet this one principle is often the most ignored! Correct body mechanics and understanding angles is a master key to success!

5) Principles of Kyusho Jitsu - Attack using Tempo. This is my least favorite principle as I honestly and not very musical. However when you attack using tempo, you affect how the brain interprets the information and thereby the result!

Therefore this is a very important principle to understand! The American Kenpo people have this one mastered!

Pressure Point Fighting

This is a phrase coined by Grand Master George Dillman, he even has a book with this name in the title. This is a very common search term, Pressure Point Fighting, however I am not one to use it.

I try very hard to create a big thick black line between fighting and self defense. However on a basic level the term does work. Here is a link to George Dillman's book if you are interested. It is a great book!

What is Kyusho and EPS?

Kyusho and EPS

What is Kyusho and EPS?

So what is Kyusho and EPS?

What does Kyusho and EPS stand for? I am sure you understand the term Kyusho which is the name for the science of pressure point self defense. However the term E.P.S may be new to you.

What is EPS?

Simply put it stands for Element - Polarity - Striking Action. This term is linked directly to the study and attack of the meridians of the body.  Let's take a closer look shall we?

Element: Each meridian on the body is represented by one of the five elements. These are either fire, metal, wood, earth or water.

Polarity: Each meridian and the organ represented has a specific polarity. They are either Yin or Yang.

Striking Action: Because of the above information each meridian also has a "best method" of attack! These are slapping, vibrating, chopping, penetrating and grasping.

Pretty straight forward right? Yes but it all must be committed to unconscious memory so that you use the correct EPS at the moment it is required! Impossible? No, difficult yes. But it all gets down to how you train!

So Much to Remember

In the science of pressure point self defense there is so much to remember! I have been doing this a long time and I can still draw a blank on some information. Last year at the closing of a seminar I was teaching I drew a blank on an Alarm Point. I asked the host to refresh my memory.

But a quick reference would have been MUCH better! Take a look at this link and learn more about the ULTIMATE Kyusho Jitsu reference!

If you have any questions please comment below! This is the best way as it helps others too! Also consider sharing this and other content on social media. It helps greatly to spread the teachings. It is surprising how many have never heard of Kyusho Jitsu!

Have a great day!

How Sound Works in Self Defense

How Sound Works in Self Defense

How Sound Works in Self Defense

How Sound Works in Self Defense

Do you wonder how sound works in Self Defense? People underestimate the dramatic effect that sound can have on the human body. But the results can be devastating! Sound can be used for both healing and destructive means. But since we are talking about self defense we will focus on the destructive side.

The Effect of Sound

We have all listened to music that gives us a headache. Now what the music is will vary from person to person. And age is a factor because the body changes with age. But you will find the effect is pretty level across the board. But in Kyusho Jitsu, the science of pressure point self defense we have a few different sets of sound. These all provide different effects.

The first ones I will discuss are directional sounds. Below is a video sample. It is too much for a single message to do into great details on this. But watch the video and see.

The second are what I refer to as element sounds. These sounds will temporarily weaken the element thus making them more susceptible to a strike. These are all pretty cool too! But as with anything else in Kyusho Jitsu there is a lot to commit to memory!

If you are like me sometimes you draw a blank on things like this. What is the sound to attack the fire meridian. Would it not be AMAZING to have a FAST reference right on your phone! Therefore giving you access in seconds? Check out the link below. I have a solution for you!

Please share this post and others like it with your friends on social media. This helps us to spread the teaching of Kyusho across the world! Also comment below with any questions you may have!

Cycle of Destruction

Cycle of Destruction

Cycle of Destruction

Cycle of Destruction

The Cycle of Destruction is a cornerstone principle in the science of pressure point self defense called Kyusho Jitsu. It comes from the basics of Chinese Medicine and is several thousand years old.

This system is part of the balance of the body and exists in a complete group known as Wu Xing. Therefore it is complete and always coupled with the Cycle of Creation, the cycle of certain high gravity planets, seasons and several other things.

For us in Kyusho Jitsu we focus on the destructive part in order to help to defend oneself in an attack.  For our purposes the cycle breaks down as follows.

  • Fire melts Metal
  • Metal chops Wood
  • Wood penetrates Earth
  • Earth dams Water
  • Water quenches Fire

Then the information is used within strikes to certain areas of the body for a predictable result.

Kyusho Jitsu References

Finding detailed information on the science of pressure points can be difficult! The information above is from an ongoing project for the martial artists and Kyusho Jitsu practitioners in particular. It is called the Encyclopedia of Kyusho Jitsu.  The information in this project will be specific to Kyusho and its application, not to acupuncture or other medical applications.

Therefore if you would like to learn more about this ongoing and expanding project follow the link below! There will be nothing like it anywhere on the internet!
