What are Kyusho Jitsu Meridians?

Kyusho Jitsu Meridians

Kyusho Jitsu Meridians

Kyusho Jitsu Meridians

What are Kyusho Jitsu Meridians? How do they work? Where do they travel? Once understood, the road to success in the science of pressure point self defense is then clearly laid out.

Kyusho Jitsu Meridians are the same as acupuncture meridian of which I am giving a reference here. This is to the top ranking site for this knowledge. Interesting enough, and also no surprise the information at Wikipedia contains some errors.

12 Standard Meridians
Kyusho Jitsu Meridian Theory

Kyusho Jitsu Meridian Theory

The meridians of the body are complicated. Things are not really as they appear to be. For the use of Kyusho Jitsu we focus on the 12 major meridians, and the 2 Vessels. There are others, and their paths also run deep,

Now stating 12 is also not accurate. This is 12 on each side of the body, so effectively 24 total we need to think about. The vessels are center-line therefore there are only 2.  Each Kyusho Jitsu Meridian has a polarity, either Yin or Yang and a direct relationship to an organ in the body.

Also each has a specific number of pressure points along it. As well as a relationship to one of the 5 elements of the body. When you take a look at this you can see a balance that they represent with relationship to health.

Kyusho Jitsu Cycle of Destruction

Kyusho Jitsu Cycle of Destruction

Upper Kyusho Jitsu Meridians

The first we will look at is the Kyusho Jitsu Meridians of the Upper Extremities, or the arms if you prefer. There are 6 total, 3 of them being Yin and 3 being Yang. The representation of each is 2 metal and 4 fire elements. They are as follows:

  • Lung - Yin - Metal - 11 pressure points
  • Pericardium - Yin - Fire - 9 pressure points
  • Heart - Yin - Fire - 9 pressure pooints
  • Small Intestine - Yang - Fire - 19 pressure points
  • Triple Warmer - Yang - Fire - 23 pressure points
  • Large Intestine - Yang - Metal - 20 pressure points.
Lower Kyusho Jitsu Meridians

The next set which run into the legs are the Kyusho Jitsu Meridians of the lower extremities. They are as follows.

  • Stomach - Yang - Earth - 45 pressure points
  • Spleen - Yin - Earth - 21 pressure points
  • Gall Bladder - Yang - Wood - 44 pressure points
  • Live - Yin - Wood - 14 pressure points
  • Bladder - Yang - Water - 67 pressure points
  • Kidney - Yin - Water - 27 pressure ppoints

This is the basic breakdown of the meridians and points. You can view a complete list of Kyusho Jitsu Meridian Charts here

2 Vessels

The 2 vessels at the center-line of the body are very similar to the idea of the main electric current coming into you house. One Vessel, Conception is at the front of the body and is the primary source of all Yin energy to the body.

The Conception Vessel

The Conception Vessel

There is no relationship to any element when it comes to a vessel, however each does have a specific number of pressure points. Governor is the primary source of Yang energy for the body. Therefore the balance.

  • The Conception Vessel - 24 pressure points
  • The Governing Vessel (or governor) - 28 pressure points.

It does get complicated and there is a lot of study. This is just scratching the surface, but it is a good place to begin to learn!

One thing you do need is you are serious about the science of pressure point self defense is a good reference tool. Take a look at the Encyclopedia of Kyusho Jitsu Project here. There will be nothing else like it anywhere!

How Kyusho Jitsu Knockouts Work

Kyusho Jitsu Knockouts

Kyusho Jitsu Knockouts

Kyusho Jitsu Knockouts

How do Kyusho Jitsu Knockouts work?  There are many people who ask this question online daily.  I monitor the Google Search results and see this phrase non stop.  Many people have opinions, and it is just that "opinions."  But the ones who say it does not work have simply not done the work or the research.

To those people I have no comment, I am not trying to convince any disbeliever.  I am talking to those who wish to truly understand what the FACTS are.

The Nervous System

Have you ever hit your "funny bone?" It is not funny that is for sure! When this happens you have hit the "Ulnar Nerve."

Triple Warmer Meridian

Triple Warmer Meridian

"In human anatomy, the ulnar nerve is a nerve that runs near the ulna bone. The ulnar collateral ligament of elbow joint is in relation with the ulnar nerve. The nerve is the largest unprotected nerve in the human body (meaning unprotected by muscle or bone), so injury is common. This nerve is directly connected to the little finger, and the adjacent half of the ring finger, innervating the palmar aspect of these fingers, including both front and back of the tips, perhaps as far back as the fingernail beds"

Your can read this entire article from Wikipedia HERE

But, remember what the "naysayers" remark. "Nerve strikes don't work!" Do you see how myopic some people are?

As I said I care less about these people opinions. What I dislike is that because they are "type a" personalities they WRONGLY influence people.  Investigate and think for yourself. Don't listen to these people. They just have no clue. But they "need" to be right.

Nerve Strikes - Kyusho Jitsu Knockouts
Learn Pressure Point Knockouts

Learn Pressure Point Knockouts

Years ago when I work in assembly at Chrysler I was walking back to my job. As I passed a container I hit the back of my hand on one corner. The pain was unbearable! I lost use of the arm from the elbow to the fingertips. Even my shoulder ached!

I hit a nerve, the one at TW-3. It took about 30 minutes to recover.  But remember as these "naysayers" will tell, nerve strikes don't work! YEAH RIGHT! THEY WORK GREAT!

Everything in Kyusho Jitsu, the science is pressure point self defense is linked directly to nerve strikes.  The very definition of a pressure point relates to a nerve.  But there is one VERY important thing to add to all this information! Attacking pressure points, or nerves is NOT ABOUT LIGHT TOUCH. I do not know why that keeps coming up!

On the street you HIT HARD, but correctly! Light touch is so your training partner does not get injured!

ALL Knockouts are Neurological
Lose the Ego

To learn YOU MUST lost the EGO!

Every knockout, including Kyusho Jitsu Knockouts are neurological. You need to understand that your entire existence is neurologically based.  Even sleep and death are neurological events.

Here are the base 3 types of knockouts. The second is Kyusho Jitsu Knockouts.

1)CONCUSSION

Concussions are caused by blunt trauma to the head resulting in bruising or damage to one or more areas of the brain. This happens as the brain collides with the inside of the skull.

A concussion can be caused by heavy impact to the skull such as a martial arts strike, a fall, car accident, etc. However trauma does not always cause unconsciousness, but when it does it is a neurological event. Therefore these are very dangerous and can result in death.

2) NEUROLOGICAL

A neurological knockout is caused by a short circuit, overload, or imbalance in the central nervous system. [involving both the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous systems.

Therefore this can be done using Kyusho Jitsu techniques

And these may also be caused by extreme stress, emotions, shock, or extreme trauma to any area of the body. [A broken bone or crushed limb for example]. Neurological knockouts also occur due to excessive use of drugs or alcohol.

3) CARDIO/RESPIRATORY

This type of knockout is caused by limiting the oxygen supply to the brain. Therefore this can be caused by choking or strangulation involving the air supply, the flow of blood or both. These can also be caused by impact to veins or arteries. Which cause a disruption in the flow of blood,  possibly dislodging plaque from the arterial walls causing clots.

This is part of the Dim Mak system of training.

Kyusho Jitsu Knockouts

Kyusho Jitsu Knockouts

Why POWER is not the ANSWER

There are many martial artists out there who believe in the idea of "punch or kick him hard in the head." There are so many issues with this one I cannot list them all! First the kind of power these people are talking about comes from anger. When you are angry you lose control of your motor skills.

You can miss very easy!

Plus you have no specific target in mind. Going for "impact" or in other words a concussion may not yield the results you are looking for! It takes time for the brain to swell and cause the "neurological" event of unconsciousness or a knockout.  I have had many concussions in my life and ONLY ONE caused me to lose consciousness and that was the first one.

So rather than focus on that one time power hit why would you not strike at the "occipital nerve" located at GB-20, or the "vagus nerve" branch at ST-05? These strikes, done correctly WILL cause  Kyusho Jitsu Knockouts.

Kyusho Jitsu Knockouts

Kyusho Jitsu Knockouts

Plus you are less likely to have "legal" issues as a result of your "fight" or "self defense" due to excess force or "overkill."

This is one of the many reasons we have a Humane Pressure Point Tactics course at Kyusho Jitsu University. Check it out!

Are Kyusho Jitsu Knockouts hard to learn?

The answer is NO they are not. But you have to do the study! This involves learning how these nerves work, how to properly activate them and then tying this back to your root art or self defense system.

I have many different eBooks and videos to help you. But you must overcome the inertia of human nature and do the work. I know that many of the "Understanding Neurological Pressure Point Knockouts" eBooks people have purchased have not been read! Humane nature is to be lazy! This is why so many FAIL in life.

So I am going to make two suggestions to get you started on the road to really understanding Kyusho Jitsu Knockouts! The first is a FREE Course. This is a 3 day video course done by email.  This will give you a GREAT start!  Below is a form you can fill out. Just enter your name and email. Kyusho 24 Hour Diurnal Cycle

Shares

Kyusho 24 Hour Diurnal Cycle

Kyusho 24 Hour Diurnal Cycle

Kyusho 24 Hour Diurnal Cycle

The Kyusho 24 Hour Diurnal Cycle is an advanced principle in the science of pressure point self defense. It is also one that many Kyusho students do not spend anywhere near enough time understanding.

Which is the reason why many have issues getting Kyusho to work as well as its potential is! The Kyusho 24 Hour Diurnal Cycle covers more than just Kyusho Jitsu. It is essentially based on the idea of energy flows in the body during a full day period or 24 hours. Here is one reference to the term Diurnal Cycle.

The idea in Kyusho is that each organ on the body has a specific "period" in the 24 hour cycle in which it is most susceptible to attack. This is the same cycle as in Chinese Medicine, except used for destructive, rather than healing purposes.

Kyusho 24 Hour Diurnal Cycle

The Kyusho 24 Hour Diurnal Cycle breaks down as follows.

  • 3:00 am - 5:00 am - Lung (Yin)
  • 5:00 am - 7:00 am - Large Intestine (Yang)
  • 7:00 am - 9:00 am - Stomach (Yang)
  • 9:00 am - 11:00 am - Spleen (Yin)
  • 11:00 am - 1:00 pm - Heart (Yin)
  • 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm - Small Intestine (Yang)
  • 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm - Bladder (Yang)
  • 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm - Kidney (Yin)
  • 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm - Pericardium (Yin)
  • 9:00 pm - 11:00 pm - Triple Warmer (Yang)
  • 11:00 pm - 1:00 am - Gall Bladder (Yang)
  • 1:00 am - 3:00 am - Liver (Yin)
Kyusho 24 Hour Diurnal Cycle

Kyusho 24 Hour Diurnal Cycle

During the cycle time for the organ it is essentally rebooting from an energy standpoint. Thus making it more susceptible to attack. In Kyusho Jitsu we do not concern ourselves so much with attacking at the correct time of day.

That is somewhat premeditated and falls more into the Theories of Dim Mak rather then Kyusho Jitsu.  But more importantly in the science of pressure point self defense the Kyusho 24 Hour Diurnal Cycle shows the flow of energy in the human body.

Therefore it connects directly with the principle of Attack Along the Meridian. So energy flows from Lung to Large Intestine. This gives you a map of places to strike.

It is also tied to Chi Development and the Major Microcosmic Orbit. See how everything ties together?

Yin - Yang Pairs

The next thing to realize as you are looking at the Kyusho 24 Hour Diurnal Cycle is that it come in Yin-Yang pairs.  One of the most difficult and complex of the principles of Kyusho it the Yin-Yang Theories. However they tie directly into the 24 Hour Cycle. So it is well worth the extra reading!

Understanding Kyusho Yin-Yang Theory

Shares

Kyusho Yin-Yang Theory

Kyusho Yin-Yang Theory

Kyusho Yin-Yang Theory

Understanding the Kyusho Yin-Yang Theory is not for the faint at heart.  It is far more complex than anyone realizes. I have been contemplating this theory for a very, very long time. But first, before we get deep into the Kyusho Yin-Yang Theory let's get some history.

Origins of Yin - Yang

The origins of Yin and Yang go back to about 500 BC with the founding of a philosophy we called Taoism [Daoism]. The father of Taoism is considered to be Lao-Tzu.  There are also heavy ties to Confucianism as well.

Now I have linked back to an article on Wikipedia, because, well why not. But even the headed of the article is wrong. Because it is NOT Yin and Yang. It is simple Yin Yang [however I separate it with a "-" usually]

Kyusho Yin-Yang Theory

Kyusho Yin-Yang Theory

The symbol is most often time viewed as opposites.  In fact many people will teach it like this. However, while not wrong, it does not represent the true meaning.

It is looked at like a collection of opposites, like the following examples.

  • Good / Evil
  • Male / female
  • Right / left
  • Positive / negative

But again this is VERY superficial and so really not accurate.  The symbol represents the illusion of "duality" that we live in, within this reality we call life. What does this mean? That one cannot exist without the other. PERIOD

Therefore duality is an illusion.

You cannot have good without evil. Positive without negative and male without female. No matter what political agenda says otherwise.  They are inseparable!

Kyusho Yin-Yang Theory

Contrary to what people like to think opposites do not attract. Why is that? Because they are inseparable to begin with! As an example if you wipe out all the men on the planet, the human race will soon become extinct along with it. And no science will stop this! The same for female! One cannot exist without the other.

Kyusho Yin-Yang Theory

Kyusho Yin-Yang Theory

Like attracts like, and then turns into the same whole once again.  So now lets look at this and the science of pressure point self defense Kyusho Jitsu.

So in self defense there is a particular way in which we need to look at the Kyusho Yin-Yang Theory, and that is by "order & chaos."

Order obviously is peace, and chaos obviously is violence.  That is the experience of the reality we live in and therefore it will never change. It is how nature functions, so it will always remain with us.

Today we are in a time of chaos, OK, better "approaching" chaos due to the proliferation of "extreme" political and religious ideological views. You can see this in the Yin - Yang symbol also!  But it will, over time swing back to more order than chaos.  It always done!

But my guess is not for a while!

Where does Kyusho Lie?

So where does Kyusho Jitsu lie on the Yin-Yang symbol? The same place that your life should lie. One the "S" curve between the 2 sides of the whole.  One foot in order and the other in chaos. In other words, in BALANCE

This is where self defense must lie to be successful, and for life to have real meaning also. This is the place of NOT being affected or pulled into either extreme.  The middle ground.

When you are here, in the middle you are not sucked into the conflict, you do not take it personally. You respond, not react.

It is only an experience you are having.  Now a word of suggestion here too. Do not over think this!  Don't look at it as some Karmic life lesson. It just is life!

It is a whole, not separate

Next we need to look at the attacker as a whole. Not separate parts. Being that the Yin-Yang applies to everything,  When you "attack" one part of the body, the whole is affected. Often times fighters do not realize this.  That is why there is so much "head hunting" in boxing.  When a properly executed strike to leg point SP-11 will cause a knockout.

How does Yin-Yang Apply?
Yin & Yang in Self Defense

Yin & Yang in Self Defense

As Bruce Lee said, "be water my friend."  When they attack, you defend, when they advance you contract.  You first complete the Yin-Yang, then move to the 3rd stage and take control, ending the conflict.

Honestly most people will not get this. They will state that it is more irrelevant theory. And that is OK. Most people today are not ready for this.  You will know them when you meet them. They are the ones not listening, but waiting only to talk.

The Yin-Yang of Attack
Kyusho Yin-Yang Theory

Kyusho Yin-Yang Theory

As you might know, or have guessed the body is constructed of Yin-Yang.  We have 12 meridians in the body. 6 of them Yin and 6 of them yang. Each element has an Yin-Yang pair. Each organ, and area of the body is either Yin or Yang. But as in the symbol, this is a predominance, not an absolute!

Here is an article specifically on using the Kyusho Jitsu Principle of Yin and Yang in self defense.  But I will elaborate more now.

OK I can ONLY go so deep into this. But here is a beginning breakdown of this powerful theory and principle. When someone attacks you they are in a predominance of YANG state. Therefore you must be YIN.  You help them to complete the cycle, being Yin before they become Yin.

What you will be next depends on them. If they remain YANG, let's say they missed as an example with the strike, then your next move/strike will be a YIN STRIKE.  Like attracts like and so to have an devastating effect you remain this way.

Now if the attacker is hurt during his initial movements then he or she will become YIN, which means you become YANG.  Follow?

Don't worry if you don't! But once you understand this FULLY it is also the "KEY" to conflict resolution also!

Confused? Don't be!
Kyusho Yin-Yang Theory

Kyusho Yin-Yang Theory

Believe it or not this is a Novice Kyusho Jitsu Principle. However it is also a cornerstone principle that holds up the study as part of the foundation. This is in my teaching a intermediate to advanced look at Kyusho Yin-Yang Theory.

But I can give you a more detailed and hopefully an easier to understand explanation.

Follow the link below and learn about the 10 Principles of Kyusho Jitsu Video Series that I have. There is one that goes into great details on the application of the Kyusho Yin-Yang Theory.

OK so each video in the series sells for $25! But I am going to give you a great opportunity to get ALL 10 Videos, including the Yin and Yang Principle for ONLY $47!

Becoming a Kyusho Jitsu Teacher

Shares

Kyusho Jitsu Teacher

Kyusho Jitsu Teacher

Kyusho Jitsu Teacher

Why would you want to become a Kyusho Jitsu Teacher with the KJWA [Kyusho Jitsu World Alliance]? Let's put all the cards on the table?

What do you think?

Other Organizations

I know for a fact that many of the other organization that promote creating Kyusho Jitsu Teacher make you jump through hoops for them.  This is politics and I hate politics! Some will not allow you to even "like" someone else's Facebook page!

Seriously? What is that?

You must also pay annual fees to the organization, have them come to teach expensive seminars to YOUR people. And then give up percentages of income and grading fees!

The Kyusho Jitsu World Alliance is NOT like any of the above!

Our Organization
Kyusho Jitsu World Alliance

Kyusho Jitsu World Alliance

In our alliance the "Kyusho Jitsu Teacher" keeps the income he or she makes teaching classes and seminars. He or she also keeps the grading fees they charge the students. There is a "reasonable cost" associated with us mailing our REAL certificates for the students, however again these are to cover costs, not make a profit.

There are no annual membership fees! And you can be a member of other organizations of you choose! You can have me in for a seminar, but it is not MANDATORY! Plus the price is GREAT!

Win/Win or No Deal

The Kyusho Jitsu Teacher in the KJWA has a lot of control over what they do. There are minimum standards that must be met for promotion and grading. However the Kyusho Jitsu Teacher can teach more if they wish too.

As a Kyusho Jitsu Teacher you have opportunity for profit sharing of any of our products sold. As well as full support from me personally to help you become successful as a Kyusho Jitsu Teacher!

Our Teachers in Spain

Kyusho Jitsu World Alliance Spain

Plus the barrier to entry has been lowered so you can get started without a HUGE investment!

Level One Kyusho Jitsu Instructor Certification

As I stated I have lowered the barrier for entry cost wise for someone wishing to become a Kyusho Jitsu Teacher.  Right now you can start, get your Black Belt in Kyusho Jitsu and certify as a teach for $97!

Sound crazy? Too good to be true? Well it is not. There is a reason I am doing this!

The regular price for this certification is $997! And it is worth that! But in today's ODD economies people need a "kick start" to get them going.

Think about this. You buy the course, you certify and then follow the suggested guidelines to teach classes. Now when I teach classes live I have a 3 hour monthly class for $75 each class.

But let's suppose you have 4 students, and ONLY charge $25 per class? You made the investment back in the 1st month!

Do you see the potential? Why are you waiting?

Follow the link right below here and learn ALL of the BENEFITS to you of becoming a Certified Kyusho Jitsu Instructor with us!

Kyusho Jitsu Alarm Points

Kyusho Jitsu Alarm Points

Kyusho Jitsu Alarm Points

What are Kyusho Jitsu Alarm Points? How do they work, and where do they fit into the study of the science of pressure point self defense?

First there are 3 different types of Alarm Points.  These are very important healing points in Chinese Medicine that have been reverse engineered for Kyusho Jitsu. The types are as follows.

  1. Alarm Points
  2. Associated Alarm Points
  3. Special Alarm Points

These are all very different and each have a different purpose and effect on the body.

Kyusho Jitsu Alarm Points

First we will look at Kyusho Jitsu Alarm Points, which are the FRONT Alarm Points in the body.

There is an Alarm Point for each organ on the body. These pressure points have a special and direct relationship with the organ they represent/govern. Attacking an Alarm Point can in theory affect the "health" of the organ. Especially if there are health issues for the person in question.

I have seen on several occasions when LU-01 [Kyusho Jitsu Alarm Point for Lung] is struck correctly that breathing issues develop rather quickly. Yin organs and meridians seem to be more susceptible to this than their Yang counterparts.

However the effect on the meridians is what we are look for more so than organ affect. Alarm Point strikes tend to weaken the body quickly making them very useful in obtaining and knockout quickly. Each Alarm Points has a different angle and direction for activation. And they have what is almost an exponential effect depending on the point.

Next we have Associated Kyusho Jitsu Alarm Points. These are located on the back, on the BLADDER meridian on the right side of the body ONLY.  These points are far more dangerous, and also harder to reach.

Associated Alarm Points have a direct relationship to the neurological aspect of the organ in question.  A proper strike can shut down the nervous system to the organ and cause failure.  These pressure points while on the Bladder Meridian are marked by their location on the spinal column.

Special Alarm Points
Spleen Meridian

Spleen Meridian & SP-21

Special Kyusho Jitsu Alarm Points are very different in function. Each has a specific purpose, not related to an organ. As an example PC-06 which is a Special Alarm Point causes a weakness in the chest area. Therefore making the area most susceptible to strikes. But I am just scratching the surface here.

When are they taught?

Kyusho Jitsu Alarm Points are an untold principle of Kyusho Jitsu. In my eBook the 15 Principles Plus One of Kyusho Jitsu Alarm Points are the "plus one."

The front of the body Alarm Points are typically taught after 1st Dan Black Belt once all the first 5 principles are well understood.  Associated Alarm Points come at 3rd Dan Black Belt once a decent grasp of the front points are understood.

Special Kyusho Jitsu Alarm Points typically are master level however I tend to teach them when I think the study is ready.

How important are Alarm Points? Pretty much everything I do is based off these now. It takes time and work to really get a solid grasp on them!

Secrets Inside Your Kata [Kyusho Jitsu]

Secrets Inside Your Kata [Kyusho Jitsu]

Secrets Inside Your Kata

Secrets Inside Your Kata

Are there Secrets Inside Your Kata?  This is actually a controversial subject especially if you speak to a very devout traditionalist! But there are Secrets Inside Your Kata waiting to be seen and unleashed!

Traditional Kata Meaning

Kata [patterns] has very traditional meaning or interpretation within them. This includes all styles of martial art being taught.  These interpretations, which the term actually offends some traditionalist, are very important.

But there is MORE in their than people think! There is also a SOLID self defense reason to look at Kata in a different light!

Tradition vs Dogma
Kata Interpretation

Kata Interpretation

There is always a danger within the ideal of tradition that is can become "dogma" very quickly. Therefore tradition should be looked at understanding all things do change, and there is no exception.

Nothing in the world stays the same. Most of all, it is best to honour tradition, with the idea that growth also needs to happen.

Teaching Tradition Interpretation

I very much believe in the teaching of traditional interpretations for Kata. These helps the student learn and understand the techniques and movement.  And it also links what they are learning to a high purpose, honoring those who created it.

However for the sake of self defense, the student also needs to begin to see what else is there! Hence learning the Secrets Inside Your Kata.

Secrets Inside Your Kata
Secrets Inside Your Kata

Secrets Inside Your Kata

When you teach someone a predetermined movement the brain is then taught, over time to develop the movement as motor skill. This is also called "muscle memory." The problem however is the student does NOT see the application as they should!

Therefore the student needs to be taught to "see" their own meaning, based on the 3 different attack methods. AND ever move in every Kata can be interpreted for the 3 attack types.

These are:

  1. Push
  2. Grab
  3. Punch

Let's look at an example.

The Down Block

The "Down Block" or Low Block as I was taught to call it is often times looked at for the blocking of a kick. Sure that can be done. But there is much more to it than just that! Below is a short video looking the Down Block applied from a GRAB.

Now teaching that is one thing! But when the student begins to study the movement and see this for themselves, the brain acts differently. This type of learning will dramatically increase the chances the student could use the technique on the street!

It is more than JUST muscle memory! It is also how the unconscious mind see the techniques. This is what the Secrets Inside Your Kata are! Then when related to pressure points in the vicinity, the movement becomes VERY effective in self defense.

And the great news? This is all part of the teaching of the science of pressure point self defense called Kyusho Jitsu.

Secrets Inside Your Kata [Kyusho Jitsu]

Kyusho Jitsu Power Principles

Kyusho Jitsu Power Principles

Kyusho Jitsu Power Principles

Depending on who you study from you may or may not have heard about the Kyusho Jitsu Power Principles. These are 3 simple principles that dictate how the body creates and utilizes power.

More importantly these are directly related to the subject of the principle of Attack Using Correct Body Mechanics.

What are the Kyusho Jitsu Power Principles?
  1. Body Mass - The amount of force that can be developed as a direct result of the mass or weight of the body of the attacker or defender.  This also ties in together with any forward motion.
  2. Torque - The way in which the body moves from the hips. As you walk forward you do not walk in a straight line. You walk instead in a Zig Zag pattern, with each hip retracting and spine turning in an opposite direct of the hip. This torquing motion allows the upper body to increase its strength and force output.
  3. Marriage of Gravity - This is the upward and downward motion the body creates while moving. It is pretty obvious that any downward striking action will have a great force than an upward striking action.

The basic outline of the Kyusho Jitsu Power Principles.

Body Mechanics
Kyusho Body Mechanics

Kyusho Body Mechanics

As I said this all ties into the idea of to attack using correct body mechanics. This would include some of the follow examples.

  1. Angles of attack and defense.  You must strike a pressure point on a 45 degree angle to activate it.
  2. 2 Way Action - Also sometimes called "complex motion." The best term I find for this is when referencing a joint lock to say fulcrum/lever activation. With a punch it relates to the torquing of the arm from the shoulder to the fist.
  3. Centering - This refers to keeping the attack or counter attacker within your center to optimize power.  This also ties in with triangular alignment;
  4. Stances - Understanding how they work, and how to transition in and out of them to keep control of the attacker and the technique.
Understanding Body Mechanics

Understanding Body Mechanics

When you understand how body mechanics really does work you can by attacking pressure points increase the levels of pain on the attacker, plus make sure he does not have an opening to take advantage of. Thus turning the attack back into his favor.

The 10 Principles of Kyusho Jitsu

Body Mechanics, where we find the  3 Kyusho Jitsu Power Principles hidden are the building blocks of the study of the science of pressure point self defense. Attack using proper body mechanics is the 4th of the Novice Principles.

Below is an older video on some of the Body Mechanics principles in our root art system.

Top 3 Most Painful Face Pressure Points

Top 3 Most Painful Face Pressure Points

Top 3 Most Painful Face Pressure Points

Top 3 Most Painful Face Pressure Points

Today I am going to talk about the Top 3 Most Painful Face Pressure Points. Pain is a great deterrent! Understanding these 3 painful face pressure points can come in very handy in a bad situation!

So let's get started!

1) Large Intestine 20
Pressure Points of the Head

Pressure Points of the Head

This is a wonderful pressure point. Located beside the nose in a hollow when it is pushed / rubbed can cause intense pain! One of the reasons for this is that Large Intestine is the only meridian that crosses the body. Plus we are dealing with an area of dental nerves as well as sinus cavities. If you hold the back of the head at GB-20 the effect will intensify!

I have also successfully used this as a knockout point! See the video below.

2) Governor 26

This is another GREAT painful face pressure point! Located right under the nose at center-line this is another RUB point. You can strike it, but if you seal the head like in the previous point, and rub side to side the pain is unbearable!

This is an excellent pressure point to use if you are on your back and have been mounted.

3) Small Intestine 18

If you saw Steven Seagal's movie Under Siege 2 - Dark Territory this is the pressure point his niece attacked on one of the mercenaries.  Another point of intense pain mostly due to the proximity of the sinus cavities. With pollution today most people have sinus issues also.

She does a good job of the grab, however you would support and seal using the left hand at the GB-20 area.  But it does do a decent job of demonstrating the pressure point!

Painful Face Pressure Points

So what is the advantage to understanding Painful Face Pressure Points? These are control points! This allows for the application of techniques, using these kinds of points, to control a BAD situation. One that has not yet turned to out and out violence.

This is the basis for Humane Pressure Point Tactics!

H.P.P.T Courses
Humane Pressure Point Tactics

Humane Pressure Point Tactics

What is H.P.P.T? This is a 3 level certification course in Humane Pressure Point Tactics. These courses cover 3 levels of THREAT and escalation and include actual scenarios and techniques you can add to your martial art style of self defense system.

This first course, Level One covers the following.

  • Basic anatomy with reference to painful pressure points
  • Using angles to control a disruptive person therefore prevent attack
  • Removing a disruptive person from the area.
  • Restraining a disruptive person until the authorities arrive
  • Assessing situations for use of proper force.
  • And Much more!

    Are Pressure Point Knockouts Real?

    Are Pressure Point Knockouts Real?
    Are Pressure Point Knockouts Real?

So Are Pressure Point Knockouts Real?

Lets get down to this question now, are Pressure Point Knockouts real? If you google this question you will see a dozen videos of people preforming pressure point knockouts but NO solid information about exactly how this can happen.

What is a Pressure Point Knockouts?
    Pressure Point Knockouts

    Pressure Point Knockouts

This is a knockout based on a Neurological Event as a result of a pressure point [nerve bundle] being stimulated.  But there are things we need to understand, to really be able to answer this question conclusively.

    3 Different Types of Knockouts
    Kyusho Knockout

    Kyusho Knockout

    Pressure Point Knockouts

The idea of pressure point knockouts is to attack the neurological system directly. This is done rather than just using the idea of blunt trauma. Therefore making neurological pressure point knockouts much more effective than other means.

It is important to note that all knockouts, no matter which of the 3 listed above are brain events. Death is also a neurological event.  So, why would someone not wish to take advantage of this in self defense?

The Problem with Most Knockout Demonstrations?
    Kyusho Jitsu Knockouts

    Kyusho Jitsu Knockouts

There is a problem with many of the pressure point knockouts videos on the Internet. They simply give the watcher the wrong impression. This causes controversy and bad mouthing because of lack of understanding. People prefer gossip over learning, and so questions are not asked.

The argument made by many "self defense experts" and I use that term loosely is they compare an MMA knockout to a pressure point knockout. They see the "light" hit from the Kyusho student and then make the claim it won't work!

    No shit? Really? [sarcasm]

Do you know the average lifespan of a MMA fighter is 18 months? By this time they have accumulated so many serious injuries they need to stop.  So in self defense training NO ONE with a brain is going to power strike ST-05 to demonstrate a KNOCKOUT.  Who wants a partner with a fractured, or broken jaw?

Therefore setup is done so that a light strike can be used to demonstrate the affect of the nerve attack.  On the street, if the opportunity to strike Stomach 5 comes up, you would hit it as hard as the situation allows!

    A Demo with Explanation

Below is an example of a pressure point knockout with a full explanation below.

    How was this possible?

Very simply really. I attacked pressure point Spleen 11, which is associated with the femoral nerve, which lies on the femur bone. As mentioned in the explanation of neurological knockout above, a knockout can occur due to a broken bone.  This is common for the Femur also!

    Spleen Meridian

    Spleen Meridian

Because of the risk of rupture of the femoral artery if this bone breaks, the kick correctly placed will cause an overload of the nervous system This causes a neurological knockout.

I only used about 30 percent power in the kick. How did I get a result? I took him off balance first, which occupied the brain, therefore making it easier to overload the system.
