The Interpretation of Kata and Kyusho Jitsu

Bunkai

Last night while I was teaching my adult class in Brasov we did about a 30 minute segment on Kata Interpretation.  Now I teach these interpretations differently than some people do because I have the students actually figure out themselves what is going on rather than me explaining it and having them memorize them.

Doing it this way facilitates programing the subconscious mind to be able to utilize the movement. Just telling them does not do it. However last night I wanted to give some examples for them to work on so I broke down a few movements in the ITF Pattern Toi Gye.

When I do this I love to watch the light-bulbs go off in people heads as they see for the first time the application of something they did not ever imagine. And all the breakdowns where basically kill shots.

No matter how you break down a Kata the results are supposed to devastating. There is no wasted motion at all. You can interpret them to be tame, but that was not the design.

And the breakdowns fit!

If you would like to discover more about the world of Kata Interpretation take a look at new video mini course I have coming out next month! Right now is the time to act before it is released. Follow the link below for all the details.
