When it comes to stances there is also a lot of controversy. Back when I actually read magazines like Black Belt or TKD Times there was always someone panning the idea that stances were not required in the arts, that they were wasted motion etc.
But my favorite was “you would never fight in a stance.” No shit Sherlock, and your brain came from where?
Anyone who thinks you would go into a forward stance and wait for an attack is an idiot, and this is why I stopped reading many of the publications. Let’s have an intelligent conversation instead. My objection to these magazines is they have become an infomercial.
Stances are something you move through, they are like the “silence” in music. There are pauses in the music, and stances are the same. Martial arts mastery means you understand that you must always be moving. Not moving, or doing any “technique” while not moving is what we call “constipated motion.”
Each main stance is related to an element, and with LOTS of practice can actually be used effectively! But I again say, LOTS OF PRACTICE…
No quick fixes here boys and girls!
Now it is beyond the scope of a blog post to teach about stances, so If you would like to learn more about this and other topics I suggest join our FREE Kyusho Jitsu Mini Course. The link is below.
